Not a good day. It's only 6:45 and I have been forced to return home already. POOOOOOO. Sorted the brakes out last night, both front and back were sticking on, that might explain why the ride home yesterday felt harder than normal. Applied gel stuff to my knee several times through the evening and again during the nightly comfort break. Thought it felt OK, so got up at 5 and was out by 5:30. Lulled myself into a false sense of wellbeing the 7 miles of downhill or flat with the wind behind felt good - 'I was fixed' - turned into the wind, had to up the effort and arh! not as good as I thought.
I am very disappointed as my quads felt good - maybe helped by the releasing of the brakes - and having worked hard, in crap weather, to get to 300 miles for the week and having to now bale at the weekend when it looks like it might be a nice day is a downer. Added to that I will have to cry off the ride with Jonesy - I do not like breaking arrangements. The only good thing I can find in the day so far is that I have been sensible enough to override my natural tendency to ignore things in the hope they will go away and my own internal pressure to do something just because I said I would - Sorry Jonesy - But I guess I have to look long term, May is what matters, if I do not let my knee heal properly the results will be much worse that a few days of missed training.
Now I need to cheer myself up, tendency is to eat, but that may not be the thing to do as my activity levels will be down for the next few days, the other option is to treat myself to a new helmet, probably don't need one - that should have been don't need one - but fancy a white one. I think Im falling in to the dress the part feel the part.
I'm rooting for you. Wasn't aware your knee was playing up. You're right to look long-term. You need to feel fresh and injury-free when it matters. Training can be a bumpy road, eh? :-/
ReplyDeleteCheers. The knee is an odd one, felt fine on Thursday no problems at all. Then Friday it started twinging after about 20 miles or so in the morning. Afternoon ride home and it started up after about 5 miles. It sounds like a bit of tendonitas. I've iced it for a while this morning and have smoothered it in deep freeze gel stuff, hopefully a couple of days off the bike will sort it out.
