Not a great start to the week, got up ok, not the most motivated I've ever been but still I was up, bit of food and a coffee and out I went, decided to head for the snake, up to the top, turn around and to school. As soon as I'd set off I discovered that my bike had developed an odd noise - odd as it had only been sat in the house - fine when I got off yesterday noisy now? I had not been going long when I decided a change of plan was needed, so I decided to turn at The Plough and go up through Gamesly round to Broadbottom and have a crack at Gorsey Brow - s short stretch of about a third of a mile but it's steep about 20% if not more in places. Anyway turned at the Plough, was forced to perform a very rushed gear change, threw the chain in the process, and fell off. This resulted in several things: 1 I had not thrown the chain I had snapped it, well the quick link had been spit - so spent 10 mins looking for two very small road coloured bits of metal that were on a road - being 5:30 it was still dark - that did not help, neither did the traffic. 2 twisted my knee a little - I am currently sat with it up on a chir with a dirty rugby sock full of crushed ice wrapped around it. 3 my enthusiasm fell out. I fixed my machine, gave it a quick hug to let it know I did not blame it for the incident and set off to work. Knee was hurting unless I stud up - is really odd riding down hill stood up. I did however manage to go flying past a reasonably sporty looking bloke who was dressed to impress coming up through Hyde to Denton. I think the whole problem stems from not having a very clear goal to aim at - so tomorrow I will have a definite plan and I will stick to it - knee willing.
