I am pleased to report that all is well. I woke up yesterday, my legs felt ace, they showed no signs at all of the previous days ride – my knees on the other had did. They didn’t feel anything like as bad as they had on going to bed, but they both were still letting me know that they were not fully happy. Kept of the bike (but that had always been my intention) but went for a walk in the afternoon, legs still feeling good, and knees feeling better.
I cycled in to work this morning, which being down hill is not much of a test for the legs but all felt good, knees were ok. I shall wait and see how they are on the uphill journey home.
Did the cycle to work ever feel like a trial? Back in the day, when you were starting out, I mean. I only ask because training combined with hindsight always strikes me as a funny thing. As you progress, you wonder what you ever found so hard about maintaining 7-minute miles (for instance). That said, I'm still buggered if I know how anyone can run a marathon in close to 2 hours ;-)

ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean. The cycle to work was never really difficult, being all down hill, but the ride home was a very different matter. There were days when it felt like I was going to die. I remember cycling home with Trigg, it must have been about two years ago now, I was trying to keep up with him on Matley Lane, he was cruising along happily chatting to me, while I was flogging myself trying to keep up, I could not breath, and my legs felt like they were about to explode. I ended up in the lowest gear I had (quite pitiful really as I had a triple chain ring at the time) and I had to give up and get off having only made it a little over half way.
ReplyDeleteWhile I am in no way a ‘good’ cyclist Matley Lane is now simply an insignificant little lump on the way home, in fact one night last week Triggy and myself ended up racing each other the length of it, I even had enough left in the legs to muster a sprint at the end – how things change.
Yup, how perspectives change :-) That's encouraging, anyway! Hope your last couple of weeks go smoothly. Will we be able to chart your progress through the actual big week?
ReplyDeleteHello again
ReplyDeleteYes progress will be charted on a map. Google latitude will allow me to put a map on this page with real time updates as to my location. I will also put up the route for the following days ride along with the ride data for the day.
That appeals both to my geeky side and to the fitness freak in me. Woo hoo! Looking forward to it, though probably with far less trepidation than you are! :-\ A bit premature maybe but just want to say GOOD LUCK! :-)
